Paula Navarro Sarmiento Presents at the Dynamic Structural Econometrics Conference (DSE) at Hong Kong University
Paula Navarro Sarmiento attended the Econometric Society Winter School and Conference on Dynamic Structural Econometrics (DSE 2025), held at the University of Hong Kong in December 2025. The event focused on combining structural estimation with randomized controlled trials and quasi-experimental methods.
The workshop was organized by the Econometric Society and hosted by the University of Hong Kong. The event brought together a broad range of researchers to discuss applied and methodological advances in structural econometrics.
Keynote lectures were delivered by leading scholars in structural econometrics and applied microeconomics such as Chao Fu, Whitney Newey, Hanming Fang and Marc Rysman. The event featured a winter school and a research conference, with lectures and presentations covering recent developments in structural estimation, experimental and quasi-experimental methods, and policy counterfactual analysis. The full program of the conference can be found on the DSE website.
In the “Cars” session, Paula presented a paper on electric vehicle subsidies, coauthored with Mateusz Mysliwski and Morten Sæthre. The paper focuses on internalizing market power and environmental externalities under imperfect policy targeting driven by heterogeneity in driving behavior. The paper uses a structural framework to evaluate the policy counterfactuals and it employs data from the Norwegian citizens’ driving behaviour patterns, as well as their purchase decisions.
