On March 5th, 2026, Natalia Fabra took part in the European Commission’s DG Competition conference “Shaping the Future of EU Merger Control”, a one-day event dedicated to the ongoing review of the EU Merger Guidelines and the challenges that merger control will face as markets continue to change.
The conference brought together competition-policy experts, academics, firms, and stakeholders to discuss how merger assessment should evolve in light of three major policy questions: how merger control can support productivity and innovation in the Single Market; how sustainability considerations should be treated when assessing mergers; and how to evaluate broader impacts on society, including effects on prices, workers, and living standards.
Prof. Fabra joined the discussion on how mergers can contribute to a more sustainable Europe, and later participated in the session summarising key take-aways from the day’s debates. The conference was closed by Executive Vice-President Teresa Ribera.
